Abstract

This essay will discuss the impact of Patricia Hill Collins' conceptual, paradigmatic, and methodological production of Black Feminist Thought on the way knowledge is being produced. To this end, concepts present in her first book Black Feminist Thought: Knowledge, Consciousness and the Politics of Empowerment, (2000), such as self-definition, self-valuation, lived experience, and intersectionality, which claim the epistemological character of the intellectual production of Black feminists, were analyzed. Thus, the essay has three main desires: (1) to spread a still little explored thought in the Portuguese language; (2) to manifest fragments of the painful process of marginalization of Black women's ideas and achievements by hegemonic perspectives; and (3) the defense of a feminist and unsubmissive science.
