Through her art, the singer and songwriter – Rita Lee – has become a symbol of “female transgression” in Brazil, having influenced several generations with her music. Then this article aims to interpret this artist’s discourse, present in two songs written by her: “Corista de Rock” and “De pés no chão”. For this analysis, we will use concepts and ideas found in Simone de Beauvoir's feminist theories, more precisely in The Second Sex, her most celebrated work. Issues such as the lived body, female objectification, women's emancipation and transcendence, among other existential elements present in Rita Lee's diction, will be identified and analyzed.
