VIOLÊNCIA E TRANSFOBIA: VIVÊNCIAS DE TRAVESTIS QUE EXERCEM A PROSTITUIÇÃO – CAMPINA GRANDE-PB
Abstract
The article problematizes the discourses of transvestites about the violence experienced during the exercise of prostitutional activity carried out on the streets of the city of Campina Grande-PB. The prostitution spaces used by transvestites were mapped and a sample of five informants was selected for accessibility. Data collection involved simple observation - the field diary and semi-structured interviews, recorded and transcribed -, which underwent content analysis. The results showed that destabilization due to their gender performance makes transvestites the prefered victims of transphobic violence. The violence to which they are subjected - physical, psychological, patrimonial, etc. - is comprised of meanings about what it means to be a transvestite, produced and generalized based on prejudice towards these people, since they resist heteronormativity and are punished for it. The forms of violence intensify when transvestites are linked to prostitution, insofar as this activity is considered socially degrading and immoral.
