About the Journal

Antropolítica, Journal of Contemporary Anthropology, was created in 1995. It results from cooperation between Anthropology and Political Science (PPGACP) domains at Fluminense Federal University. This merger gave rise to the Journal’s name, emphasizing the areas’ partnership.

Scope and nature

Currently, Antropolítica’s editorial policy aims to disseminate scientific knowledge and publish original articles, translations by renowned authors in the field, reviews of recent national and international works, and other academic texts related to empirical research, theoretical, methodological, and ethical dialogues relevant to Social Anthropology, in its various subareas, and other related fields. Particular emphasis is given to contributions from ethnographic perspectives originating from quality empirical research and with diverse analytical approaches, including comparative and contrast analyses.

The Journal’s target audience is the national and international community of anthropologists and those of the Social and Human Sciences in general. It is aimed at both trained researchers, professionals in the area working within and outside academia, and researchers in training.

History

In 1994, the Departments of Anthropology and Political Science created the Post-Graduate Program in Anthropology and Political Science (PPGACP). In the same year, an editorial policy was adopted to institutionalize academic integration, achieved via seminars, meetings, and joint research within the scope of the PPGACP’s relations with national and international research institutions. This editorial policy created the Antropolítica Journal, whose first issue was published in 1996 and is now in its 52nd issue.

Since 2006, the Journal has been exclusively linked to the Post-Graduate Program in Anthropology (PPGA). Since then, Antropolítica has had an Editorial Committee responsible for editing the journal, an Editorial Board composed of researchers from national and international institutions, and the collaboration of numerous reviewers, who are essential to maintaining the journal’s quality. The contributors are influential anthropologists and social scientists from Brazil and abroad (e.g., France, Argentina, and the United States).

Antropolítica was a biannual publication with articles and reviews from its launch until its issue 14 in 2003. Starting with issue 14, we began publishing Dossiers, coordinated by researchers from Post-Graduate Programs in Anthropology (PPGA), through which we disseminate original contributions to the main research themes in our Program. Regarding the periodicity, Antropolítica was published twice a year until issue 47, published in 2019, and became a quarterly issue in 2020.

Due to the intensification of our institutional relations, we have been promoting the journal electronically and facilitating its access since 2006. The journal’s penetration in the Brazilian and foreign Social Sciences has, over the years, shaped a new profile for the journal, which, reflecting the Program’s lines of research, increasingly publishes authors from other foreign and Brazilian academic institutions.

In 2010, due to the high printing costs and the broad scope and popularity of electronic journals, the Editorial Committee proposed that Antropolítica become an Electronic Journal in its 29th issue. It is essential to emphasize that, having completed more than 20 years of uninterrupted activities, we reaffirm our proposal to publish texts that can contribute significantly to the Social Sciences despite all the human and material resources difficulties.

We publish three annual issues in April, August, and December. The issues comprise a Dossier, a section of articles on free themes, a section entitled Crossed Perspectives, a section called Trajectories and Perspectives, and, finally, a section comprising reviews.

All contributions received must be submitted via the system after registering and will be evaluated by the Editorial Committee and external reviewers. Interested authors must submit their articles following the editorial guidelines. Texts originally written in Portuguese, Spanish, French, or English may be submitted, except for those that have not been previously published, which must be translated into Portuguese.
