O deserto do ideal
neoliberalismo, tecnomasculinidade e o sonho precário de trabalhar com videogames

Esta resenha aborda o livro A precarious game: The illusion of dream jobs in the video game industry, de autoria de Ergin Bulut, lançado apenas em inglês em 2020. Trata-se de um estudo sobre o funcionamento da indústria de games, a partir da imersão etnográfica em uma empresa estadunidense, à qual Bulut dá o pseudônimo de Desire. O autor examina as formas de trabalho que sustentam a empresa, que inicia sua trajetória no mercado independente, mas logo é adquirida por uma distribuidora maior. O alcance da análise se prolonga para além das paredes de Desire: reverbera nos ambientes domésticos dos trabalhadores e na desigualdade de gênero; na necessidade de outsourcing de trabalho precário para países do Sul-Global e na perpetuação dos valores de “diversão” e “escapismo” baseados na tecnomasculinidade branca e no individualismo competitivo neoliberal.
