Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this article, we propose the discussion that university extension has a centrality in the accomplishment of the university tripod: teaching, research and extension, regarding the accomplishment of the social function of the public university. Through an analysis based on the Marxist tradition, it is understood that through popular education it is possible for the university to contribute to the struggle for the right to the city of workers living in the peripheries and favelas, connecting with their real demands.

Eblin Farage, Universidade Federal Fluminense

Graduated in Social Work from Universidade Federal Fluminense (1998), Master from the Postgraduate Program in Social Work at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2006) and PhD in Social Work from the Postgraduate Program at UERJ (2012). Associate Professor at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), where she teaches classes in the area of ​​Fundamentals of Professional Work at undergraduate level and is a member of the Post-Graduate Program in Social Service and Regional Development (PPGSSDR) . Researcher in the areas of Urban Question - with an emphasis on the theme of favelas and popular spaces -, Urban Social Movements, Higher Education and Popular Education.
