Abstract
The limits drawn on the surface ofthe Earth by societies are territorial objects. No doubt for frontiers, but it is the same for big or small unities built by nature such as the continents. On the other hand, the temporal stnictures, the periods which set an order in the pasts, are judicious only for a delimited society. To define a period, we must say at what place it applies to, as we must also speciQ what are the chronological limits of an area. No era without area - and vice versa.
