Abstract

O presente artigo tem como Leitmotiv apresentar ao leitor de língua portuguesa a obra do geógrafo alemão Alfred Hettner bem como o contexto, no qual constrói seu projeto corológico de uma Länderkunde (Ciência Regional). Contextualiza-se, assim, as ideias expostas no seu livro clássico Die Geographie, ihre Geschichte, ihr Wesen und ihre Methoden (“A Geografia, sua história, sua essência e seus métodos”) através de uma apresentação estrutural e semiótica, usando aspectos biográficos do autor e debates metodológicos entre os geógrafos do II Império Alemão e da República de Weimar. Com isso, o artigo fornece material de apoio para o texto traduzido de uma parte do segundo capítulo do mencionado livro, apresentado no mesmo volume da revista, na seção “Nossos Clássicos”.
