Neste livro, “Novas Geopolíticas”, Vesentini traz à luz uma discussão acerca dos conflitos geopolíticos que poderão ser palco das disputas pela hegemonia e poder no século XXI. Para isso, ele faz um recorte histórico sobre o desenvolvimento dos estudos geopolíticos, desde a geopolítica clássica, teorizada pelos militares e geógrafos, com foco nos Estados, até os dias atuais, onde há uma profunda interdisciplinaridade nos estudos da área, com contribuições de intelectuais de vários segmentos, como a sociologia, antropologia, economia, história. Isto se faz necessário pois, segundo o autor, os conflitos na contemporaneidade, principalmente no século XXI, tendem a não ser mais exclusivamente entre Estados em busca de poderes econômicos e territoriais, podendo ser até mesmo de ordem cultural.
