THE URBAN BIOREGION BASED ON BIOECONOMIES: AN ANALYSIS OF THE ACTORS INVOLVED IN THE PRODUCTION OF CLAY POTS IN THE GOIABEIRAS NEIGHBORHOOD, VITÓRIA/ES

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between society and nature, focusing on economies based on the mangrove ecosystem as a structuring element of their existence, where the actors involved have a codependent relationship with the preservation of natural resources and act, in parallel, as territory-producing agents by contributing to the containment of land use and occupation by activities linked to dominant economies, inserted in the urban-industrial logic. Therefore, based on a bibliographical review, documentary research and participant observation, a study was carried out on the network of actors linked to the production of clay pots in the Goiabeiras neighborhood of Vitória, Espírito Santo, based on their bioeconomic potential and their ability to contribute to maintaining social, cultural and environmental characteristics in the mangrove ecosystem. Thus, an urban bioregion is proposed, based on the network of actors related to this activity, encompassing the territorial system necessary to maintain and promote balanced relations between society and nature.

  • Nayla Ingrid Ramos Martins, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (UFES) Vitória, ES, Brasil

    PhD student in the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), linked to the Heritage & Territorial Development Laboratory (Patri_Lab/UFES) in partnership with the Socio-Environmental Systems Research Laboratory (LiSS/INPE). She holds a master's degree in Remote Sensing from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) (2019-2021) and is a member of the Socio-Environmental Systems Research Laboratory (LiSS - INPE) in partnership with the Heritage and Development Laboratory (Patri_Lab - Federal University of Espírito Santo/UFES). Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of Taubaté (2014-2018). Participated in university extension as a scholarship holder at the Cultural Heritage Preservation Center - NPPC for 4 years and 8 months (2014-2018), at the University of Taubaté. Developed 9 (nine) projects in the area of architectural restoration, with the NPPC - UNITAU research group. She has worked as technical leader in the area of updating real estate value plans in 20 (twenty) municipal projects in the private sector (2022-2024). Researcher from the Sustainable Regional Development (SRD) project of the Jones dos Santos Neves Institute (IJSN), linked to the Espírito Santo State Secretariat for Economy and Planning (SEP). And, volunteer researcher on the project “Hybridity as a conceptual and methodological foundation for self-determined development plans and projects: an experiment in the Santa Maria da Vitória river basin, Espírito Santo” (2023-2025), both funded by the Espírito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation (FAPES).

    Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (2021). Currently a Master’s student in the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (2023-present), specializing in Cities and Territorial Impacts, and affiliated with the research line Heritage, Sustainability, and Technology. Member of the ongoing research group named “Territory-Heritage-Society”, at the Heritage & Development Laboratory (Patri_LAB). Takes part on the project “Hybridity as a conceptual and methodological foundation for self-determined development plans and projects: an experiment in the Santa Maria da Vitória river basin, Espírito Santo” (2023-2025), funded by the Espírito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation (FAPES).

  • Renata Hermanny de Almeida, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (UFES) Vitória, ES, Brasil

    PhD in Architecture and Urbanism, in the Theory and Practice of Conservation concentration area and Restoration, by the Federal University of Bahia (2005), having completed a interuniversity exchange doctorate, by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (2002-2003). Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (1986), Master in Architecture and Urbanism, in the Conservation and Restoration concentration area, from the Federal University of Bahia (1993). She is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, working in the Architecture and Urbanism Department (1992-), and in the Architecture and Urbanism Graduate Program, at the Master's level (2007-); and as coordinator of the Heritage & Development Laboratory - Patri_Lab (2009 -). She has experience in the Architecture and Urbanism area, with an emphasis on Fundamentals of Architecture and Urbanism, Conservation and Restoration, Architecture and Urbanism Project, Heritage, Management and Sustainability, Urban-architectural intervention. Since 2018 she is the coordinator of the ICOMOS Espírito Santo State Nucleus.
