Missive values and verbo-musical compatibilities in “Pavão Mysteriozo” by Ednardo

Using analytical procedures focused on both verbal and melodic aspects, this article examines the song “Pavão Mysteriozo” by the singer-songwriter Ednardo from Ceará. The aim is to delve into the missive component present in the song and explore the relationships between its lyrics and melody. This endeavor is grounded in Greimasian-based semiotics, particularly the semiotics of song as developed in the works of Luiz Tatit (1994, 1997, 2010, 2016). We will analyze the connections between the narrative subject's journey in “Pavão Mysteriozo” and the obstacles encountered along the way, while also dissecting how different melodic regimes interact in constructing the meaning of the song. Finally, we will demonstrate how all these components contribute to creating a general meaning effect, wherein the subject, faced with obstacles and the dysphoric situation in which it finds itself, believes it can reunite with the object from which it is disjointed. These elements relate to multiple interpretative possibilities (whether political or mythical) of the song.
