Women who Meet in Ana Martins Marques’ Gardens: A Garden for Wislawa

Abstract

My goal is to investigate the voice of Wislawa Szymborska as one of the principles of a thread that weaves together, pulling other voices of female authorship, configuring a lineage of female authorship cultivated mainly throughout the second part of O livro dos jardins (2019). To this end, I seek to analyze this dialogue between Ana Martins Marques and Wislawa Szymborska through a critical reading of the poem “Um jardim para Wislawa,” in the aforementioned book, as well as the poems found in their intertextual networks. With this, I also seek to verify an implicit but important gender politics in both poetics, those of Ana Martins Marques and Wislawa Szymborska, in occupying a place not traditionally associated with female authorship: that of the “poetics of thought” (Lavelle, 2019), as Patricia Lavelle acknowledges in the essay “Leituras que se cruzam nos jardins de Ana Martins Marques,” published in the journal Pessoa. This is a poetics between poetry and philosophy, literary creation and critical reading, poet-reader and reader-critic, in which the poem reacts poetically to philosophical arguments (Lavelle, 2019).
