Methodological issues for analysis of metaphor from the Corpus Linguistics perspective
Keywords:
Corpus Linguistics. Metaphor. MethodsAbstract
In this paper, I look at ways in which we can apply Corpus Linguistics principles to research in metaphor, with a focus on methodological issues. Two methodologies are presented: corpus-based and corpus-driven. As far as corpus-based methods, I show a procedure for selecting metaphor candidates as well as how to use a concordancer to query a corpus. As far as corpus-driven methodologies, I present two pieces of software: KeyWords and the Metaphor Candidate Identifier.
