Abstract

Notes on the literary histories of African countries that have Portuguese as their official language. Common historical traits are stressed, pointing to neo-romantic perspectives when these literatures contemplate questions related to their constitution as nations; strategies of renewal of the literary Portuguese language, whose plasticity goes back, in each nation, to Medieval times; the network they create in the universe of Portuguese written literature.

Benjamin Abdala Junior, USP

Pesquisador do CNPq e coordenador de Letras e Lingüística da CAPES/MEC, é professor titular da FFLCH da Universidade de São Paulo. Publicou cerca de quarenta títulos de livros (livros de autoria individual, organização de coletâneas críticas e antologias), entre eles A escrita neo-realista (1981); História social da literatura portuguesa (1984); Tempos da Literatura Brasileira (1985); Literatura, história e política (1989); Fronteiras múltiplas, identidades plurais: um ensaio sobre mestiçagem e hibridismo cultural (2002); De vôos e ilhas: literatura e comunitarismos (2003).
