Abstract

The Portuguese language and its importance to the literature of African countries, i.e., former Portuguese colonies. The identitary ties with the “fatherland” decreased and the imposed language acquired different facets in Angola, Cabo Verde, Moçambique, Guiné-Bissau e São Tomé e Príncipe. Some links remained, albeit scattered, others dissolved with time. The Portuguese language, crossing the Atlantic, the Indic, arrived in different lands, receiving new knowledges, musicalities, accents; multiplied, pregnant, by Other sperms, sweat and ‘sweat and blood’.

Author Biography

Carmen Lucia Tindó Ribeiro Secco, UFRJ

Nascida no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Doutora em Letras pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Professora Associada da Faculdade de Letras desta Universidade, implantou em 1993 o Setor de Literaturas Africanas de Língua Portuguesa. Foi Chefe do Departamento de Letras Vernáculas/UFRJ de 2003 a 2004 e é Membro da Cátedra Jorge de Sena para Estudos Literários Luso-Afro- Brasileiros. É consultora da FAPERJ e da CAPES, pesquisadora I do CNPq. Publicações nas áreas de Literaturas Africanas e Brasileira, entre as quais: Morte e prazer em João do Rio (Rio de Janeiro: Francisco Alves, 1976); Além da idade da razão (Rio de Janeiro: Graphia, 1994); Guia bibliográfico das literaturas africanas em bibliotecas do RJ (Rio: Faculdade de Letras/ UFRJ, 1996); Antologias do mar na poesia africana (Rio de Janeiro: Faculdade de Letras / UFRJ, 1996, 1997, 1999. 3 v.). O volume 1 desta Antologia, dedicado a Angola,teve uma edição angolana, em Luanda, no ano de 2000, sob a chancela do Editorial Kilombelombe, com o apoio do Ministério da Cultura de Angola. Publicou também os livros: A Magia das letras africanas: ensaios escolhidos sobre as literaturas de Angola e Moçambique. Rio de Janeiro: ABE Graph, 2003; Entre fábulas e alegorias. Rio de Janeiro: Quartet, 2007; Como se o mar fosse mentira (em co-autoria com Rita Chaves e Tânia Macedo). Luanda: Chá de Caxinde, 2006.
