The typological gradation of voice constructions

Abstract

According to Givón (1981), the typological characterization of passive involves three functional domains: clausal topic assignment, impersonalization and de-transitivization. This paper´s main objective is to provide a scalar, non-discrete characterization to the different voice constructions available in Portuguese grammar on the basis of those three functional domains.

Roberto Gomes Camacho, UNESP

Doutor em Lingüística e Língua Portuguesa pela UNESP, Campus de Araraquara, com estágio de Pós-Doutorado na Universidade de Amsterdã. É professor do Departamento de Estudos Lingüísticos e Literários da UNESP, campus de São José do Rio Preto. Atua como vice-coordenador do Grupo de Pesquisa em Gramática Funcional e como membro da equipe de pesquisadores do Projeto de Gramática do Português Falado nas áreas de Sociolingüística e Sintaxe Funcional. Publicou inúmeros artigos em revistas nacionais e internacionais, além de capítulos de livros em obras coletivas.
