Abstract

After recognizing the difficulties found to define it, modernity is conceptualized in first part of the article, on a three axes basis. The first one refers to modernity like a predetermined time. The second axis allows one to think between the new time – modern time – and current time. Within this perspective, the so called “ spirit of time “ (Zeitgheist) has a crucial paper. The third axis is centered in subjectivity and is connected with the idea of time period identities. In the second part, the text tries – from a theoretical point of view – to establish dimensions for an approach of modernity, seen as a project, a conception of society. It also refers to the “modus operandi” of the collective demons-trations consolidated in the last decades (like, for instance, feminism). In the final part, some elements of the debate on the characterization of our contemporaneity are briefly discussed, with an emphasis on the post modern perspective.
