Abstract

This paper analyses the process of going through the forms of representation of oral texts in the contemporary Angolan and Mozambiquean novel. In the end, such a process imparts different textual traits to the novel from those usually found in our western literary tradition. ln addition, the present paper tries to highlight the way in which the novelists imagery reinforces their symbolic-cultural referents without, however, leaving aside the white western heritage. The novels O manequim e o piano by Manuel Rui (2005) and O sétimo juramento by Paulina Chiziane (2000) serve as a paradigmatic basis for this reading.

Doutora em Letras, professora de Literaturas Africanas de Língua Portuguesa da Universidade Federal Fluminense Pesquisador - nível1B do CNPq. Coordenadora do NEPA (Núcleo de Estudos das Literaturas Portuguesa e Africanas) da Universidade Federal Fluminense. Membro do Conselho do Centro de Estudos Afro-Asiáticos do Centro Universitário Cândido Mendes (RJ-Brasil). Publicou Entre voz e letra: o lugar da ancestralidade na ficção angolana do século XX. (Prêmio Mário de Andrade de melhor ensaio literário, conferido pela Biblioteca Nacional-RJ, 1995), Novos pactos, outras ficções: ensaios sobre literaturas luso-afro-brasileiras (2002). Autora de mais de 30 ensaios e/ou artigos publicados em periódicos nacionais e internacionais, além de capítulos de livros e comunicações, perfazendo mais de 100 textos científicos.
