This paper presents an approach for the study of the relation between discursive genres and discursive types. This approach is supported by the hypothesis that each genre possesses specific types. To verify the validity and the reach of this hypothesis, this paper aims at showing, initially, that the theories that conceive the types and the sequences as universal standards (linguistics or cognitives) do not resist the analysis of a simple narrative sequence. After exposing the inconsistency of these theories, I propose, in a second moment, an approach that allows clarifying unknown aspects of the functioning of the genres and the way they can be used in order to reach specific objectives.Downloads
