Mismatches between illiterate society and high culture in Brazil
Keywords:
modernization, illiterate society, readers formation, literature and pressAbstract
This paper proposes to discuss the dualism between folk and erudite literature in Brazil. Starting from the Rio de Janeiro city context, in the beginning of the 20th century, the text analyzes how the industrialization of the press, with the hiring of writers for the newspapers and the popularization of their production, was fundamental for getting the process of creation of an autonomous literature among us from the ground. Although the fact that these mild contexts, produced in the daily newspapers pages, were fundamental in our culture history, they had not constituted a system in the Brazilian literature. Based on Alfredo Bosi and Silviano Santiago, some ideological aspects inherent to such marginalization are analyzed.
