Abstract

This article proposes to rescue the importance of the 17th century poet Caldas Barbosa (1740?-1800) in the canon of the Luso-Brazilian literature and to reevaluate the critical opinion about his poetry, giving importance not only to Viola de Lereno but also to his encomiastic poems.

Doutora em Letras pela UNESP-Assis/SP, Professora Substituta de Teoria da Literatura da Faculdade de Ciências e Letras da UNESP-Assis e Coordenadora do Curso de Letras da Universidade Paulista (UNIP), Campus de Assis. Entre suas publicações, destacam-se o ensaio "O ideal utilitário da poesia portuguesa setecentista: a poética do encômio e seus reflexos no Arcadismo Brasileiro" (Blumenau, Revista de Divulgação cultural) e o livro Violando as regras.
