Abstract

This essay discusses three procedures of narrative shaping common to Riobaldo and Thucydides: the glimpse of a pause for lucid reflection, the foundational question and the silent indeterminacy of multiplicity. By examining its articulations in each narration, this assessment aims both to contribute to the understanding of one by the other and to formulate a theory of textual narrative which emphasizes and orchestrates how historiography contributes to fiction and vice versa.
