NATURALISM WITH QUOTATION MARKS: 'BOM-CRIOULO', BY ADOLFO CAMINHA, HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE CHALLENGES OF LITERARY CREATION
Keywords:
Caminha, Adolfo. Naturalism. Male homosexualityAbstract
This is a study about the theoretical and ethical challenges faced by Brazilian writer Adolfo Caminha during the composition of Bom-Crioulo (1895), his novel about male homosexuality. The solutions he created suggest the predominance of an emotional stance in the protagonist characterization. They allow him to tone down Naturalism, as well as explore, in a sympathetic and pioneering way, the thoughts of a homosexual character.
