This study aims at describing and analyzing one of the possibilities of materialization of the cognitive process of comparison: the assimilative comparative construction, especially when presenting the connectors tipo and igual, in Brazilian Portuguese. The theoretical approach applied to this study finds support on the Usage-Based Construction Grammar (GOLDBERG, 1995, 2006; DIESSEL, 2015), which defends the ideia that language use experience affects cognitive representations. To describe the semantic meanings of comparative constructions, we also appealed to Frame Semantics. As data source, we made use of three linguistic corpora: Corpus Oral Brasil, Corpus Brasileiro and Corpus do Português. Our analysis showed that assimilative comparative constructions materialized with tipo and igual truly are cases of comparison process materialization. Besides, such constructions may occur on syntagmatic, sentential and intersentential levels, which contradicts what traditional grammatical studies usually support.
