Uma interpretação para a generalizada difusão da língua portuguesa no território brasileiro

Abstract

ln the context of the nowadays studies on the formation of Brazílian Portuguese, we present here an interpretation to the generalized diffusion of the Portuguese language in Brazil. Based on demographic data, geographic and social mobility related to the Africans and Afro-descendents and in the absence of scholarization of this numerous populational contingent, we propose that the so-called "Popular Brazilian Portuguese" owes its "formato" to the manner the Portuguese language was acquired by this meaningful populational segment that diffused it through Brazilian territory.

Rosa Virgínia Mattos e Silva, Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA)

Professora Titular de Língua Portuguesa da UFBA e pesquisadora do CNPq. Autora de obras e de artigos publicados em periódicos nacionais e no exterior, concentra seus estudos nas linhas de pesquisa em português arcaico, ensino de língua portuguesa e história do português. É coordenadora do Programa para a História da Língua Portuguesa do Departamento de Letras Vernáculas da UFBA.
