Variação na 2a pessoa: o pronome sujeito e a forma do imperativo
Keywords:
subject pronoun, variation, imperativeAbstract
This article is a study of two variable phenomena in Brazilian Portuguese: the use of subject pronoun and the verbal forms of imperative, both referring to 2nd. Person singular. The investigation is based on a corpus composed of seven theatre plays written in the middle of 19th. century and in 1992. Their action takes place in Rio de Janeiro. The quantitative analysis compares the changes in use of subject pronoun (tu and você) to the use of variable forms of imperative and discusses the influence of subject pronoun as a constraint to the choice of the imperative form.
