A gênese das variantes da negação
Keywords:
development of negation, interface among variation, functionalism and acquisition, directionality of the variants of negation in Brazilian PortugueseAbstract
This paper, based on a longitudinal research, focuses on the genesis and variation of negation in child language. The findings from this study reveal that the development of negation progresses from iconicity to abstraction/ritualization, throughout a continuun in which there are intermediate stages. The data illustrate how the discourse of negation, established by a complex interactive game among cognition, socialization and language, signalizes, for instance, authority conflicts (refusal), problems of setting limits between the Self and the Other (disagreement), inability, ritualization of justifications (because...), different viewpoints (polemic negation) and counter-expectation. Finally, this research also provides additional evidence for the directionality problem of the emergency of the variants of negation in Brazilian Portuguese (BP).
