Abstract

This article investigates how digital platforms modulate affect at a pre-individual level, reshaping emotional predispositions, engagement, and consumption practices. The study combines a theoretical-critical approach grounded in Deleuze and Guattari, Massumi, Parisi, Zuboff, and Bucher with empirical evidence such as Facebook’s emotional contagion experiment, Haugen’s leaked documents, Mozilla Foundation investigations, and findings from the Pew Research Center (2022). Results show that algorithmic modulation functions as an industrial infrastructure of the sensible, amplifying racial, gendered, and generational inequalities, while dissident practices offer avenues for resistance.
