THE CREATION OF THE YOUNGEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND WOMEN’S RIGHTS:
THE CASE OF SOUTH SUDAN
Keywords:
South Sudan, women, human rightsAbstract
In 2011, South Sudan declared its independence from Sudan and became the youngest country in the world. Since then, it has faced a considerable challenge, related to the construction of a state and governmental apparatus, the low humanitarian rates, internal conflicts, social inequality, economic recession, and poverty. The absence of an effective government corroborates with the development of an increasingly unstable scenario – which is fueled by the Civil War that has spread since its creation. Such facts extend to the sphere of human rights, especially regarding women’s rights, which can be seen through the increase in the rate of gender and sexual violence. Given the above, this article aims to research about the situation of women and women’s rights in South Sudan and how they have deteriorated since the country’s creation.Downloads
