About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Revista Poiésis is a semiannual, open-access publication of the Graduate Program in Contemporary Studies of the Arts of the Universidade Federal Fluminense. Acting in the expanded field of arts, Revista Poiésis aims to publish articles, artworks, translations, and reviews that deal in a substantive way with issues related to the production of the arts and critical thinking in contemporary times. According to its editorial policy, Poiesis prioritizes the publication of unpublished works resulting from research carried out primarily in the academic field, without excluding research, productions, and practices that occur in other scenarios.

With this policy, Revista Poiésis seeks to act as an articulator and propeller of the ideas that guide the Graduate Program in Contemporary Studies of the Arts of the Universidade Federal Fluminense, committed to the training of artists, teachers, educators, historians, and theorists in the field of arts from the political and conceptual perception that, in the everyday environments of contemporary culture, reflections and practices around the artistic phenomenon need to be articulated through different spheres of knowledge, permeated by different disciplines.

The journal began to be published at the end of the year 2000 (ISSN 1517-5677) and in 2008 it gained an electronic version available online (ISSN 2177-8566). Since 2016, the journal is published only on the electronic portal of the Universidade Federal Fluminense on the Internet. Counting on the collaboration of professors-researchers from Brazilian and foreign universities (ad hoc referees), Poiésis adopts a double-blind evaluation. In addition, Revista Poiésis uses plagiarism detection features in the material submitted for publication in order to avoid practices that are not suitable for academic production.

Journal Structure:
Revista Poiésis is composed of the following sections:

• Thematic dossier organized by guest (s)
• Free articles submitted to the Editorial Board and evaluated by ad hoc reviewers
• In-Process Research (partial results of investigative processes carried out by master and doctoral students from Brazilian or international graduate programs)
• International connection
• Translation (of texts considered relevant by the Editorial Board for the Program's research lines and for the critical debate of the arts)
• Artist page, for projects with still images developed for the journal
• Reviews of artistic and bibliographic productions
• Ditos + Escritos, section dedicated to the publication of research by Master's students of the Program, accompanied by critical comments from researchers participating in the research evaluation process
• Cadernos de Pesquisa, publication of research completed by PPGCA-UFF students.

Peer Review Process
Revista Poiésis adopts double-blind peer review in a system that counts on the collaboration of peer reviewers from different Brazilian and foreign universities (outside the Universidade Federal Fluminense). Each work submitted to Revista Poiésis is sent at least to 2 (two) external reviewers-reviewers, after prior evaluation by the Editors (Editor and Deputy Editors) as to the relevance of the work and adequacy to the scientific standards adopted by the journal. Continuing the evaluation process, ad hoc reviewers may accept, refuse or suggest changes to the author (s). If there are significant disagreements between the reviewers' opinions, a third reviewer is asked to collaborate in order to support the final editorial decision.

In addition, Revista Poiésis uses plagiarism detection (CopySpider) features in the material submitted for publication in order to avoid practices that are not suitable for the dissemination of academic production.

Revista Poiésis does not charge any fee from its authors, either for submitted works or for requested works.
