Abstract

This paper seeks to define and discuss the meaning of the term marginality and its presence in Marginals and other tales. To do so, we draw a comparative picture between João Melo’s book of short stories and Hélio Oiticica’s Seja Marginal seja herói. In this way, we see how the term can be read in some of the short stories that make up the work and, also, we have in analysis what the dialog that the set of texts establishes with this term, which names the short story that closes the work. To compose the article, we rely on reflections and studies by Hanna Arendt, Linda Hutcheon, and Roberto Vecchi.

Renata Cristine Gomes de Souza, Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF)

Doutora em Literaturas Comparadas pela UFF, com tese intitulada O espaço na obra de João Melo: desilusão, violência e resistência. Mestre em Estudos de Literatura pela UFF com bolsa concedida pelo CNPq, com dissertação intitulada A distopia em Os Transparentes, de Ondjaki. Cursou graduação em Letras Português/Literaturas na UFRRJ com período sandwich de dois anos na Universidade de Coimbra com bolsa concedida pela Capes. Renata é produtora de material didático e curadora de Literatura da revista USO.
