Abstract

Based on research data: “Social Workers and their participation in Councils in the North of Rio de Janeiro: the social control of public policies as spaces of tension and ethical-political struggle”, developed between August 2022 and July 2023, by the Study Group on Social Service, Public Policies and Social Control, the article presented here consists of a systematization of empirical data, in order to present and discuss how the insertion of public policy workers in spaces of social control, has contributed to the political organization, in defense of the agenda of the working class, especially social workers. Through the mapping and profile of counselors in the north of Rio de Janeiro, together with the Public Policy and Rights Councils, the aim is to think about spaces of social control, as forms of sociability and relationship with the State, being able to advance in the service of needs and guaranteeing   rights.

Ketnen Rose Medeiros Barreto, Universidade Federal Fluminense

Graduated in Social Work from Universidade Federal Fluminense (1994) and Master in Social Work from Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (1998). PhD from State University of Rio de Janeiro (2017) Counselor of the Municipal Council of Social Assistance.
