Abstract

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that taxation on food is linked to the capitalist logic of production and, therefore, becomes imperative when food choices are determined, usually by the impoverished population, to the detriment of other factors. This condition leads to the demobilization of the theme of Food Security among the population most likely to have this right neglected. To problematize this perspective, we carried out a survey in the favela of Rio das Pedras with 50 residents, aiming to understand the issue of Food Security in the territory, considering not only the common understanding and explanations widespread among residents, but also the types of food consumed more frequently. and the criteria for choosing when purchasing daily food for family subsistence in the context of the initial years of the pandemic, between 2020 and 2021.
