Abstract

The following reflections seek to shed light on the process of organizing and confronting territories that are on the route of uranium and phosphate mining in the hinterland of Ceará. In the wake of rentier, financialized capital, it presents the dimensions of contemporary expropriation, demarcating the strategy of overexploitation of nature's common goods, with the environmental issue being one of its main consequences. It also systematizes the forms of popular organization over a period of almost two decades, through the Ceará Antinuclear Articulation, in the face of resistance to a mining-industrial megaproject. We conclude with some indications of the possibilities for Social Work to engage with the expressions of the environmental issue and with forms of collective popular organization. Finally, we consider that this reality is part of the context of worsening climate change and the strategy of articulation with social movements.
