Despite the existence of the necessary technology, efforts against climate change outlined in the UN's 2030 Agenda are not progressing at the expected pace to prevent irreversible increases in the average global temperature that could have dire consequences for human life. The UN's 2030 Agenda has established ambitious goals and indicators to monitor the progress of these actions. In Brazil, the demand for energy in the transportation sector is still predominantly tied to fossil fuels. Petrobras, a mixed economy state-owned company, plays a central role in the country's fossil fuel production chain and, consequently, directly influences the country's ability to meet the targets outlined in the 2030 Agenda. In this context, this article assesses, through documentary research, Petrobras' energy transition plans, examining the alignment of its medium and long-term plans with the 2030 Agenda Goals related to SDG 13 – Action against global climate change. The findings reveal perspectives on emission reduction and increased investments for diversification and improvement of Petrobras' product mix, aiming to make the company less susceptible to climate-related issues and to prepare it for the energy transition. This article also highlights the need for governmental intervention to ensure alignment and a national strategy regarding fossil fuel.
