Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • In the box "Comments to the Editor", the higher degree of the author or authors was indicated. (undergraduate,, masters/master, doctoral/doctor, PhD).

Author Guidelines

ANONYMITY GUARANTEE
You must not identify yourself anywhere in the submitted text or in any other material you submit. The anonymity of the materials is essential for double blind peer review (double-blind evaluation, in which the evaluator is unaware of the author's identity and vice versa). We ask that authors also delete possible proprietary information from the document.


To do so, follow the instructions to guarantee the anonymity of the document:• Right-click on the document's icon and click on "Properties";
• Then, click on the "Details" tab;
• In the lower part of the window, click on "Remove Properties and Personal Information";
• Choose the option "Remove the following properties from this file:", click on "Select all" and then press "OK".

SUBMISSION RULES
1. Submitted works can be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English.
2. The author must be a graduate or post-graduate student in Political Science, Social Sciences or similar areas, and must indicate his or her title in the "Comments to the Editor" box.
3. The author must indicate to which line of research he is submitting the work in "Comments to the Editor". You can find the list of research lines in About the journal.
4. Articles, research reports and monograph abstracts written in English must contain:

  • title in English and title in another language (Portuguese or Spanish),
  • an abstract of at least 150 and a maximum of 300 words in English,
  • three to five keywords in English,
  • an abstract and keywords in another language (Portuguese or Spanish).

6. The text must be original and unpublished, and not being evaluated by another journal. If the work is being evaluated by another journal, it must be justified in “Comments to the Editor”.
7. Files for submission must be in Microsoft Word or OpenOffice format;
8. Only reviews of books published for a maximum of 5 years will be accepted;
9. Reference URLs must be informed when available;
10. No amount will be charged in any part of the process, from submission to the actual publication of the work.
11. Anonymity: The submitted works must not contain information that allows identifying their authorship. In case of references to other works by the same author, they must be identified in the text as any other work, with “AUTHOR (YEAR)”.
12. Text formatting must follow these rules:

  • Body text: Times New Roman typography, size 12, 1.5 spacing;
  • Footers: Times New Roman typography, size 10, single spacing;
  • There should be no spacing between paragraphs;
  • Excerpts in italics are permitted, especially in the names of works and periodicals, but excerpts in bold or underlining are not permitted;
  • figures and tables must be inserted in the textual body (they must not be at the end of the text, as attachments);
  • The margins must be configured as: top and bottom (2.5 cm), left and right (3 cm).

13. Size: Articles and monograph abstracts must contain between 15 and 25 pages; research reports should not exceed 15 pages; translations should not exceed 30 pages; reviews and interviews should not exceed 5 pages;

  • All elements of the work must be within the page limit, including tables, images and bibliographical references;

14. Direct quotations within the body of the text must have up to three lines and must be enclosed in quotation marks. The reference must be indicated after the citation, containing the author's last name, year of publication and page. Example: "partial and accidental coincidences between the leaders' ambitions, ideas and strategies and the fears, hurts and hatreds of their followers." (APPADURAI, 2019, p. 20)
15. Direct quotes with more than three lines must be separated from the body text, indented by 4 cm to the left, single spacing, font identical to the text and size 10. The reference must be indicated at the end of the quote, following the exemplified pattern above;
16. Epigraphs or direct quotes appearing at the beginning or end of sections of the text are not allowed.
17. Direct quotations in other languages in the body of the text may appear in original or translated form.

  • if the original appears, the translation must appear in a footnote;
  • if the translation appears, the original must be in the footer;
  • the authorship of the translation must be indicated in the reference, Example: (WEBER: 1975, p.122; our translation).

18. Bibliographical references must be presented at the end of the work and in alphabetical order, following the current ABNT norms;
19. Images, including tables and graphs, must be identified with a title immediately above and a caption immediately below them, and must be mentioned in the body of the text in the way they were identified in the title.
20. Databases: authors must make available the databases used, if any, in a format that can be accessed through R, SPSS or Excel software. The databases will be kept in the journal's archive for the sole purpose of verifying the information.

  • if the database was acquired on a third-party website, it is also necessary to provide the link through which it is possible to access them;
  • variable identification captions should be provided, in case they are not properly identified in the available databases;
  • all microdata referring to human beings must guarantee the anonymity of the subjects;
  • the editorial team reserves the right, at any time, to request detailed explanations about the treatment of data, including instructions for replicating statistical processes;
  • any structural changes to the data, such as merging databases, transforming variables or others, must be reported to the editorial team;

21. It is recommended to make available documents that may be relevant for reviewing the work, such as survey questionnaires, field notes and others;

All works will undergo an editing process to adapt to the publication, and structural modifications may be suggested by the editors and reviewers to the author.

When submitting any work for evaluation, the author undertakes to respond, by e-mail, to any contact made by the editorial team within 7 (seven) calendar days, so that communication failure will result in the withdrawal of publication of the work.

Papers that do not strictly follow the journal's rules will not be accepted.
