Abstract

In homage to Professor and friend Dr. Roberto Kant de Lima, the alliances and university exchanges promoted by the Professor with the author of the article and with the Political and Legal Anthropology Team of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, Institute of Anthropological Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, are reviewed. The first meetings and the main challenges are remembered, as well as the incipient scientific and training activities that were consolidated over the years, the teams and research centers that exist today. The pioneering and innovative nature of the work of Professor Lima is based, in particular with respect to theoretical and methodological contributions, as well as in the realization of ethnographies on innovative topics in the discipline. His work in the formation and consolidation of research teams between universities and associations in Brazil and Argentina stands out. The realization of ethnographies about the forms of police and judicial violence has been a topic scarcely addressed in Latin American anthropology, to which Kant de Lima and the alliances promoted by him gave impetus, rigor and institutionality. The importance of friendship, passion and generosity in the creation and innovation of anthropological topics little explored in the discipline in the early 1990s in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro is evoked.
