Abstract

This article sought to analyze the Hippie Movement in the United States, from its emergence to its decline. In addition, the aim was to demonstrate the reverberations of the hippies in the present, such as in fashion. To this end, contemporary haute couture was explored in the fashion designs of stylists, such as Mary Quant (creator of the miniskirt) and Rudi Gernreich (inventor of topless). As well, it sought to present an exhibition of contemporary haute couture through three fashion shows influenced by hippie fashion: the first by the italian brand Gucci, entitled “Peace and love”, the second by the french brand Dior, conceived by the stylist Maria Grazia Chiuri and, finally, the third by the italian brand Valentino, in Paris, created by the stylist Pierpaolo Piccioli.
