The formation of the colonial complex of the Serafim Fagundes & CIA colonizer in the region of Planalto Rio-grandense (1898-1899)

Abstract

Abstract: This study addresses the performance of the colonization company Serafim Fagundes & CIA, in the Planalto Rio-grandense region, at the end of the 19th century. The colonization company acquired, via purchase, public and private land for the formation of a colonial complex, called Colônia General Osório, located on the left bank of the Jacuí River, in the city of Cruz Alta. The article is organized in three items: first, the research theme and the sources are delimited; then, the formation of land ownership in Cruz Alta is discussed; and, finally, evidence is sought to explain the reasons that led landowners to sell them to the colonization company, as well as the social and parenting network around these properties. Therefore, it is a first approximation of the sources and the theme that gradually reveals an extensive and complex social network of landowners in the Cruz Alta region.
