THE SOCIO-TERRITORIAL CONFLICTS IN THE QUILOMBOLA TERRITORY OF SAPÊ DO NORTE AND COVID-19

This article is about the socio-territorial conflicts experienced by quilombola communities from the Sapê do Norte region, located in the extreme North of the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil. To carry out the research the methodological procedures utilized were bibliographic and documental research. It is a research connected to the Nucleus of Studies About Violence, Public Security and Human Rights of the Federal University of Espirito Santo. The territorial conflicts faced by the communities since the mid twentieth century establish a direct link with the urbanization project of the Brazilian territory triggered by capitalist expansion. The process of territorial enclosure experienced led to the extinction of 68 communities, remaining only 32 communities at present. More recently, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, new opponents appear: real estate speculators. Due to being a territory situated in a coastal region, this market increased its interests in the region However, dialectically and under this perverse dynamics, the quilombola People struggle and resist.
