Streaming has become a key platform for the production and dissemination of Brazilian cinema. We propose to examine significant works produced by Netflix since 2017, considering streaming as a component of Platform Imperialism, as defined by Dal Yong Jin (2013, 2015), a contemporary form of labor exploitation, artistic creation, and colonization of the imagination (2015, 2023). Based on a survey of content, film forms, and the preferred and introduced genres, we observe in significant examples how the platform's guidelines resonate in Brazilian films in relation to the characteristics of mainstream cinema already studied (Schvarzman, 2018), and how they contribute to the development of Brazilian cinema.
