Abstract

This article analyzes the current profile of Brazilian agribusiness in the context of hunger, deforestation and record grain production. It then reflects on the country's economy, food production and consumption, as well as the consequences for food insecurity as a way of assimilating the dynamics of agribusiness: which produces, but does not feed. It also seeks to present the main food regulations in the country, the institutional dismantling, the environmental consequences for family farming and agribusiness during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our presentation points out that, although the situation of hunger is a legacy of the pandemic, the context prior to the health crisis is decisive for understanding Brazil's return to the Hunger Map in 2022. The problem remains central and is related to the agricultural model and the political, economic and social organization, which continues to privilege agribusiness to the detriment of family farming.
