This article analyzes the kidnapping of the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and the First Combatant, Cilia Maduro, carried out by the US government on January 3, 2026. The assessment of the case examines the elements that paved the way for the event, drawing on prior documentation, particularly regarding Donald Trump’s election and his first year in office starting in January 2025. The discussion highlights the shaping of a new US national security strategy, which redefined the country’s strategic orientation toward Latin America, using the Venezuelan situation as a case study. Drawing on Marxist critical literature, the article characterizes the episode within the framework of imperialism, employing metaphors derived from card and board games. It concludes by interpreting the “Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism”, held six months later, as a further step in this same strategic direction.
