The article presents an overview of the relationship between language studies and teaching in Brazil, demonstrating how the results of linguistic research have been supporting mother language teaching and even the official guidelines for this activity in our country. Considering as a starting point volume 2 of Gragoatá, which, in 1997, focused on language and literature teaching (O ensino da língua e da literatura), this article highlights, in the present volume, the most recent contributions of linguistics to language teaching and learning, and also presents a synthesis of the other articles that take part of this issue.Downloads
