Abstract

Drawing on the concepts of Bakhtin analysis of the novel form, particularly on the polyphonic discourse, the article proposes a reading of the book by Machado de Assis as a novel of formation, which relies on irony to refract the fictional voice built (or formed) in relation to other voices that might question or deconstruct it.

Marcelo Brandão Mattos, UFF

Doutorando em Literatura comparada, na Universidade Federal Fluminense, com projeto de tese intitulado A geração da distopia, sobre narrativas angolanas contemporâneas. Mestre em Literatura portuguesa e literaturas africanas em língua portuguesa, pela mesma universidade, com a dissertação Um banho de rio nos escritos e sobrescritos de Luandino Vieira. Ministrou aulas de Literaturas africanas em língua portuguesa para o Curso de Pós-Graduação Lato Sensu História & Literatura – do século XIX aos tempos atuais, na Faculdade Santa Dorotéia, em Nova Friburgo (RJ). Atuou, como estagiário de docência/ bolsista doutorando, nas disciplinas Literaturas africanas de língua portuguesa II e Literatura portuguesa III do curso de graduação em Letras da UFF. Últimas publicações: “Perspectivas sobre verdade e sujeito nos romances A Corte do Norte e O mosteiro” (Revista FronteiraZ, da PUC-SP) e “Os caminhos e descaminhos de A Corte do Norte” (Revista ABRIL, do Núcleo de Estudos de Literatura Portuguesa e Africana da UFF (NEPA).
