“Perdón”, “desculpa”, “desculpa aí”. The expression of apology in iberoamerican cinema

Abstract

The aim of this article is to identify the group of ritual formulas, whether crystallized or not, that express apo­logies in different Iberian and American communities and compare the nature of offenses that demand acts of reparation. The analysis involves nine contempo­rary movies exhibiting eight different urban centers: Cuba, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia. Preliminary results show some diffe­rences in the use of apologies between Hispanic and Brazilian communities concerning a) the formulations of the apology and b) the types of offenses demanding apology. In their direct formulations, the apology is necessarily related to the verbal and pronominal system of addressing in the following forms: ustedeo, tuteo, voseo in Spanish, neutralization of tu/você in Portu­guese, and the corresponding interpersonal relations in social and cultural context.

Flávia de Almeida Monteiro, FAETEC, SEEDUC

Mestranda da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, onde desenvolve projeto de dissertação sobre “Agradecimentos e Desculpas em português brasileiro e em espanhol: um estudo comparado de polidez a partir de roteiros cinematográficos contemporâneos”. Graduada em Por­tuguês – Espanhol pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro em 2001, é professora titular da Fundação de Apoio à Escola Técnica e da Secretaria do Estado de Educação.

Célia Regina dos Santos Lopes, UFRJ

Professora de língua portuguesa da Faculdade de Letras da UFRJ desde 1994, onde se doutorou em 1999, atua no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras Vernáculas. Sua tese “A inserção de a gente no quadro pronominal do português: percurso histórico” foi publicada em Frankfurt/Madri, 2003. Em 2005, organizou o livro “A Norma Brasileira em Construção: fatos lingü­ísticos em cartas pessoais do século XIX” e, em 2006, editou, em co-autoria, o livro “Sincronia y diacronía: de tradiciones discursivas en Latinoamérica” pela Vervuert/Bibliotehca Ibero-Americana. É bolsista de Produtividade do CNPq.

Leticia Rebollo Couto, UFRJ

Professora de língua e literatura espanhola da Faculdade de Letras da UFRJ desde 1991, atua na área de Estudos Lingüísticos no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras Neolatinas. Doutora em Ciências da Linguagem pela Universidade de Ciências Humanas de Estrasburgo, 1999. Bolsa de Hispanistas para Pós-Doutorado na Universidade de Alcalá, Projeto Espa­nhol oral e estudo das relações interpessoais, 2005. Bolsa Coimbra de jovens pesquisadores para Pós-Doutorado na Universidade Católica de Louvain, Projeto Prosódia e variação dialetal, 2007.
