THE PSYCHOANALYSIS OF "UNS BRAÇOS"
Keywords:
Assis, Machado de. "Uns braços". Literature and psychoanalysis. LacanAbstract
The text discusses the ways through which the short-story "Uns braços", by Machado de Assis, reenacts the psychoanalytical "family romance" giving an emphasis to the roles of language and desire in the processes of construction of the self. This emphasis allows the Author to suggest the existence of parallel structures in both Machado's narrative and lacanian psychoanalysis. Body and eroticism are, with language acting as a mediator, inserted in the dynamics of reproductions of family structures and social roles. To do that reading, the remarks made by loão Alexandre Barbosa on the relation of literary discourse and other discourses are taken as a theoretical basis.
