Abstract

Modern fiction has been built by passages or mediations of values. Its axial figure is the arbitrator or translator of an experience. It searches the disciplined energy of transculturation as lhe best way lo reach the passage from nature to culture or from myth to enlightenment. Comparative literature has been its main academical field. Nevertheless, in late modenity, another type of fiction, the hybrid, has substiluted the former one. It shows the deferred ar disseminated limts of that practice, now become a signifying threshold. Although its academical institutionalization is linked to postcolonial or subaltern studies emergency, some ambivalent traces of modernist dissidence can be pointed out as its preceeding forms. That is the case of Borges textual monstruosity.

Raúl Antelo, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina

Professor titular de literatura brasileira na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Pesquisador do CNPq, foi professor visitante em várias universidades brasileiras e estrangeiras (Yale, Duke, Texas at Austin, Leiden). É autor de Literatura em Revista (Atica, 1984); Na Ilha de Marapatá (Hucitec /INL, 1986); João do Rio: o dândi e a especulação (Timbre/Taurus, 1989); Parque de diversões Aníbal Machado (Ed. da UFMG/Ed. da UFSC, l994); Algaravía. Discursos de nação (Ed. da UFSC, 1998); Transgressão & Modernidade (EUPG, 2001 ). Colaborou em várias obras coletivas. Tem artigos recentes em Revista Iberoamericana; Protée (Québec); Inimigo Rumor (Rio de Janeiro ); Revista Brasileira de Literatura Comparada; Revista de Crítica Cultural (Santiago de Chile), Radar Libros e Punto de Vista (Buenos Aires) bem como em alguns catálogos de exposições. Editou A alma encantadora das ruas de João do Rio (Companhia das Letras, l997); Ronda das Américas de Jorge Amado (Oficina da palavra, 2001); Antonio Candido y los estudios latinoamericanos (Pittsburgh, Instituto Internacional de Literatura Iberoamericana, 2002) e a Obra Completa de Oliverio Girando para a coleção Archives da Unesco (1999), onde também colaborou nas edições críticas de Mário de Andrade, Henriquez Urefia e Joana Manso. Foi presidente da Associação Brasileira de Literatura Comparada (ABRALIC) e consultor de literatura brasileira da Revista Iberoamericana de Pittsburgh.
