Abstract

The structural changes of the face resulting from aging can be delayed or treated with these aesthetic interventions, among which the application of hyaluronic acid can be chosen. There are aesthetic complaints from patients regarding aspects presented by the lips, involving their contour, projection and volume. The restoration of the lip contour can be obtained with lip filling through the application of hyaluronic acid. The objective of the present study was to show how the technique of lip filling with the use of hyaluronic acid can promote facial harmonization. A narrative review of the literature was carried out in the Google Scholar and LILACS bibliographic databases and a survey of studies and articles that dealt with the use of hyaluronic acid for lip filling in facial harmonization procedures. The lip filling technique is an aesthetic technique that proceeds through the use of hyaluronic acid to fill the lips, seeking remodeling and the resumption of the lost contour. Hyaluronic acid is a viable option to provide facial harmonization, in addition, this filler has biocompatibility characteristics. When performing the facial aesthetic technique using hyaluronic acid injections, local anesthesia is initially applied. In the portion of the lips, the lip filling is performed using needles or cannulas, which insert the material in the place, seeking to obtain an outcome with improvements in the contour, volume and projection of the lips. It was concluded that the use of hyaluronic acid to promote satisfactory facial aesthetics can achieve a favorable outcome and has clinical applicability in dentistry.
