O Impacto das Migrações no Futebol Internacional

The theory of migration and the process of globalization are subjects widely studied in the field of international relations. Both themes can illustrate and help us understand the phenomenon of migrants acting in several sports. The present work aims to use the contributions of migratory theory of international relations to analyze and understand this phenomenon in the context of the 21st century. The history of subjugation and colonization of northern countries over their southern colonies has a strong influence on this process, which still reverberates today. One cannot fail to mention the commercialization of sport, the “export” of players and the post-colonial relations involved. After describing these phenomena, this paper analyzes the case of the national teams of France and Portugal, in which the performance of migrants is remarkable and expressive.
